The Bailey bridge beams are equipped with 4 sets of clamps on the beam to limit the position of the longitudinal beams, and are connected to the ends by short columns and diagonal braces. The bottom of both ends has 3 grooves. When installing the beams, the grooves are inserted into the pins on the lower chord of the truss and the beams are positioned on the truss. The spacing between the grooves and the truss is the same, and the spacing between the trusses is relatively fixed after the beams are in place. The beam clamp consists of a tie rod, a suspended beam, and a support rod; it is used to secure the beam frame. The end of the support rod has a bulbous head, which is inserted into the groove on the beam support plate when installed, and the suspended beam is hooked on the long rectangular hole on the frame vertical member. Then the support rod (or wrench) is turned to secure it. The beam clamp cannot withstand significant upward loads, so when the beam is clamped with the clamp, it is strictly forbidden to use a jack to lift the beam up.
